Mutually Agreed Norms For Routing Security (MANRS)

The 2023 Routing Security Summit, organized by MANRS (Mutually Agreed Norms for Routing Security), is set to take place virtually from July 17 to July 20. The event aims to underscore the significance of routing security and motivate decision-makers and network operators to enhance the security and resilience of the global routing infrastructure.

The summit will feature a series of tutorials and panel discussions, bringing together partners from across the Internet routing ecosystem. They will address queries about routing security and the MANRS initiative, discuss successful implementations of routing security measures like Resource Public Key Infrastructure (RPKI), and share ideas on promoting routing security awareness among both the technical and wider Internet community.

The event will be conducted via Zoom and will be live-streamed and recorded for later viewing. Registration is currently open for tutorials and sessions, with more sessions to be added soon.

Some of the tutorials include:

  • An introduction to the global Internet routing system, its importance, and how to secure it by adopting best current practices and joining like-minded networks as MANRS participants. The trainer for this tutorial is Massimiliano Stucchi.
  • A discussion on the MANRS history and program objectives, including the four simple but concrete actions that MANRS participants work towards implementing that eliminate common routing issues and attacks. This tutorial is the introductory session for the Internet Society MANRS Course, which is happening from 17 July to 11 August. The trainer for this tutorial is Zobair Khan.
  • A behind-the-scenes look at what features are available to MANRS participants, including the routing security details for all ASes and the MANRS API, and what you can interpret from them for your own reporting and validation. The trainer for this tutorial is Aftab Siddiqui.

The sessions will cover topics such as Routing Security as Supply Chain Security, The Role of CSIRTS in Routing Security, and Working with Governments to Progress Routing Security, among others.
